Explain why heat energy is needed to melt a solid.

the particles of a solid r strongly held together with a strong intermolecular force.
so heat energy is required which weakens this strong intermolecular force of attraction n hence the solid changes into its liquid form only if a certain amount of heat energy is given to it.
