Homosporous pteridophytes refer to the pteridophytes that produce only one type of spores that are not separated by sex while heterosporous pteridophytes refer to the pteridophytes which produce two types of spores separated by sex.

A heterosporous life history occurs in some pteridophytes and in all seed plants. It is characterized by morphologically dissimilar spores produced from two types of sporangia: microspores, or male spores, and megaspores (macrospores), or female spores. In pteridophytes, megaspores are typically larger…

● Homosporous Vs Heterosporous pteridophytes

1. In homosporous pteridophytes, spores are equal size. In heterosporous pteridophytes, spores are unequal.

2. In homosporous pteridophytes, one kind of spores are formed. In heterosporous pteridophytes, two types of spores - microsporangia and macrosporangia.

3. In homolosporous pteridophytes, all spores produced from same sporangia. In heterosporous pteridophytes, spores produced from microsporangia & macrosporangia.

4. Homosporous pteridophytes example - puzzlegrass. Heterosporous pteridophytes example - Salvinia.
