Increases in pH due to leaching, increases erosion rates. In decreasing order the composition of borosilicate glass consists of SiO2, CaO, Al2O3, B2O3 and MgO.

An equilibrium between dissolved (leachate) components and those remaining in the glass is set up eventually which means that more erosion takes place in a constantly replenished water supply than water in static contact.
