Explain why in IR spectroscopy transmittance is measured and not absorbance ​

Currently I'm doing some FTIR analysis to identify types of plastics.

My questions are:

1) Which presentation of the spectrum peaks should I use, absorbance or %T?

2) In what situation/condition that I should use Abs or %T?

I've gone through many articles, with most results presented in %T while others in Abs. There must be reason(s) for this which I'm trying to figure out
