Explain why it is safer to use a wireless telephone instead of landline during the lightning
Answers
During storms and cyclones when there could be lightning in the sky, it is preferable to use mobile phones rather than fixed telephones to call some one or to receive some calls.
The reason is that fixed phone is connected via a wire to the telephone exchange. The wire goes to the pole on the street. The wires are exposed to the atmosphere. These copper wires may pick up electric charge if the lightning is nearby. The pole is also metallic and possibly attracts current/ charge from lightning discharge nearby.
That charge may flow into the telephone receiver one holds in hands. It could be dangerous to the persons.
Mobile phones don't put one in such a danger.
If lightning strikes, through the telephone wires charge can be transferred to your body causing electric shock. This is because telephone wires are made up of conducting material.
