Na + ion has 11 protons ,10 electrons whereas Na ion has 11 protons and 11 electrons

Na+ ion is formed when Na atom loses one electron . Due to this , the effective nuclear charge increases as number of electrons become less than that of protons .

Hence , the nucleus attracts electrons towards it more effectively. Hence , the size decreases .
