Explain why no work is being done by the Sun's gravity on the Earth.​

Answer:

Because the displacement vector at any point along earth's orbit is tangent drawn at that point. In circular motion, centripetal force acts along the radius of the circle. Thus work done by the sun on earth when revolving in a perfectly circular orbit will be zero.

Hello there,

Work done is equal to zero assuming earth revolves around the sun since,

we know that

Work = Force × Displacement × cosθ

in this case , θ = 90

ie. cosθ = cos90 which is equal to 0

putting the values again in the formula,

we get -

Work = Force × Displacement × cosθ

(putting cosθ = 0)

= f × Displacement × 0

= 0

Thus ,

no work is being done by sun's gravity on the earth
