In acidic solution MnO4- is reduced to Mn++. This could be because Mno2 that is formed is quickly reduced to to Mn+2, MnO2 disproportionates to MnO4- and Mn+2, Or MnO2 just isn't formed. ... In any case in strong acid Permanganate does not oxidize Mn+2.
