Climate scientists reached a consensus years ago that human activity is the main driver of climate change and now a majority of Americans are finally coming around to accept that fact. A December 2018 poll found that 58 percent of respondents agreed that global warming is caused by human action, a 13-percentage-point jump from 45 percent in a similar survey taken in November 2015. Still, many people may not fully understand how scientists can be so sure that burning fossil fuels, destroying forests, and other such activities are the primary causes.
