due to scattering of light. during sunset and sunrise light travels the maximum part of earth atmosphere and we know that red colour is least scattered therefore the sun looks red

At the time of the sunrise and the sunset the distance of the sun from the earth is very far therefore by scattering of light the blue light, having the smallest wavelenght, it scatters before reaching the earth and the red light , having the largest wavelength enters the earths atmosphere and its seems reddish during this time.
