The brake mean effective pressure(bmep) of a naturally aspirated diesel engine is lower than that of a naturally aspirated spark-ignition engine because in the naturally aspirated diesel engine air is not utilized properly.
In a naturally aspirated diesel engine the air to fuel ratio is always weak in order to achieve complete combustion. The mixture of fuel and air is compressed during the compression stroke and the compression ratios are limited by the auto-ignition. But in naturally aspirated spark-ignition engine only air is compressed during the compression stroke eliminating the fuel's auto-ignition.
