Answer:

the rails have gaps between them to prevent the following:-

1- Expandation in summers

2- contrasting in winters

Explanation:

its is because the rails are made up of metal or iron and iron gets expanded in summers and contrasted in winters and this expandation and contrasting of rails can be prevented by this method only (puting gaps between the rails) if the gap will not be there ,there is chance of the rails to be broken.

Answer:

the rails have gaps because

Explanation:

rails are made of steel which expand on heating and contract on cooling .if rails are fixed in such a way that there is no space left for expansion or contraction they will bend outward in summer.this will result in the derailment of train .

to avoid such a situation ,small gaps are left in between the rails does in summer this gaps gets smaller and in winter bigger ,but the rail by itself remains straight. thus, no derailment takes place .
