Explain why the surface of some metals acquire a dull appearance when exposed to air for a long time. Support it with three examples.

This is due to the slow oxidation process which is called corrosion.

Eg.

Iron turning into rust.

A layer of silver sulphide on silver.

A layer of aluminium oxide on the aluminium metal.
