Munshi Premchand's story 'God lives in the Panch' is about the importance of the Panchayat and the impartial role of the Head Panch needs to play when he acts as the judge. In this story, there are two close friends, Jumman Sheikh and Alagu Chowdhari. Coincidentally, when one friend had to go to Panchayat for justice, the other was the Head Panch. Firstly, when Jumman went to the Panchayat, Alagu gave a decision against him which caused them to become foes. But when Alagu went to the Panchayat and Jumman was made the head Panch, he surprisingly gave a decision in favour of him. At that time, Jumman realizes that a head panch has to get over all human ties to give the right decision, just the way God does. Therefore, the title is appropriate.
