Variegated plants accumulate less food than the nonvariegated plant's under the same condition as the rate at which chlorophyll is maintained in the nonvariegated leaf is more than that of the variegated leaf.

Answer:

Variegated plants accumulate less food than the non variegated plants under the same condition as the rate at which chlorophyll is maintained in the non variegated leaf is more than that of the variegated leaf.

Variegated leaves are the appearance of "differently colored zones" in the leaves and sometimes in the stems. The variegated leaves are rare in nature. They are found in the "understory of tropical rainforests". This term is also used for showing the color zonation in leaves.

Explanation:

Basically, they have less chlorophyll in them. Thats the green stuff that turns sunlight into energy, via photosynthesis, so less 'green' means less ability to make food. As rate of chlorophyll in non-variegated leaf is more than that of variegated leaf,as more sunlight is trapped in case of non-variegated leaf.
