We cannot make pots with sand because the particles are so big and rough and they are loosely packed, where as in a clayey soil the particles are closely bounded and they become hard on drying.

Reason why we can make pots, statues and toys only with clay :
We cannot make pots, toys and statues with sand but only with clay because clay has excessively fine particles that stick together and forbid water and supplement development, while sand has coarse particles which enable water and supplements to drain too quickly.
Pots, toys and statues can be made only if the substance has water absorbing ability. As clay has the ability to absorb high water content and retain it, it is used for the purpose.
