the simplest example will be of perspiration. we sweat to release the excess water and salts from our body, this liquid when comes in contact with the external environment gains energy from the surrounding to turn from its liquid state to its vapour state. at gaseous state a substance is at a higher energy level. it requires energy for it to break the forces of attraction between the atoms and turn into another state. this absorption of energy during perspiration can be felt by us as cooling. this evaporation causes cooling is the best example, and an example you've experienced that I could give.
