A chemical equation is a symbolic representation of chemical reactions in the form of symbols and formulae wherein the reactants entities are given on the left- hand side and the product entities on the right- hand side. The first chemical equation was Diagrammed by Jean Beguin in 1615.

When ethanoic acid reacts with sodium carbonate, it give rise to salt, carbon dioxide and water. The salt produced is commonly called sodium acetate.
