Antiseptics are antimicrobial substances that are applied to living tissue/skin to reduce the possibility of infection, sepsis, or putrefaction. Antiseptics are generally distinguished from antibiotics by the latter's ability to safely destroy bacteria within the body, and from disinfectants, which destroy microorganisms found on non-living objects.

Some commonly used antiseptics are hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, boric acid, iodine, formaldehyde, and hexachlorophene.

Antiseptics are special type of chemical compounds which are used for external application on the body,in order to prevent the rapid growth of microorganisms and to prevent various infections on the body. Eg. Dettol,Boroline,Boric Acid,Iodine etc.

• There are various types of chemical substances which are applied on the external body skin of our body.

• These chemical substances are used to treat the wounds, cuts etc. These antiseptics destroy the harmful microorganisms which grow on such sensitive wound area.

• In this way,the antiseptics reduce the chances of infection and further medical complexity.
