Print media served as an important source of information in colonial era, with the publication of several newspapers in English and vernacular languages.
In 1780, the first newspaper was published in India, which was named as Hicky’s Bengal Gazette.
Then some other English newspapers were also started by the British people, which contained all the information about the social and political news of colonial India.
Then the educated Indians stated newspapers in vernacular languages; like Bengali newspaper Sambad Kaumudi by Raja Rammohan Roy in 1822, Bombay Samachar by Fardaonji Muzban and Persian newspaper Mirat-ul-Akhbar in the same year for providing information to the common mass.
