◆ Food must have limited amount of salts -
- Salts contain sodium chloride which is associated with retention of water in body.
- This excess water causes hypervolemia and leads to increased blood pressure i.e. hypertension.
- Hypertension can further cause atherosclerosis, diabetes, stroke, myocardial infarction, etc.
- To prevent all this, food must have limited amount of salts.
- Recommendation is daily salt intake should be restricted to 5 g/day.
