Dear Student,

â—† ABO blood group system -

• Carl Landsteiner classified blood groups according to presence/absence of antigens A & B on RBCs.

  1. Group A have A antigen.
  2. Group B have B antigen.
  3. Group AB have both A & B antigen.
  4. Group O have no antigens.

# Group O is called universal donor because -

  • Group O doesn't have any antigens on its RBCs.
  • So our immune system system doesn't react to RBCs of O blood group as there is no antigen.
  • As this blood can be given to person with any blood group, person with O blood group are universal donor.

Thank dear...
