Answers
Explanation:
“ Phyllotaxy refers to the pattern or arrangement of leaves on the stem or branch of a plant ”.
There are three types of Phyllotaxy which are as follows :
- ALTERNATE PHYLLOTAXY
In this type of leaf arrangement, a single leaf arises at each node of a branch in alternate manner.
This type of Phyllotaxy is observed in the Sunflower, Mustard, Peepal, China rose, etc.
- OPPOSITE PHYLLOTAXY
In this type of leaf arrangement, a pair of leaves arise at each node. The leaves lie opposite to each other in this case.
It is found in Guava, Calotropis, Jamun plants, etc.
- WHORLED PHYLLOTAXY
In this type of leaf arrangement, more than two leaves arise at a node.
It is found in Alstonia.
➽ Phyllotaxy is the arrangement or distribution of leaves on the stem or it branches in such a way that they receive maximum sunlight to perform photosynthesis.
☛ Phyllotaxy is of three types :-
Alternate or spiral :- a single leaf arise each node in an alternate manner, e.g. Hibiscus rosa sinensis.
Opposite :- two leaves are borne from the node in opposite directions. e.g. Quisqualis,Calotropis.
Whorled or Verticillate :- more than two leaves are borne on a node, which form a whorl.
