Answers
The poet describes the story of the comet how it travels all day and all night and still it is with the full energy.
The poet is comparing the speed of the comet with the cheetah but the poet is also describing the size of the comet that it is very huge just like a mountain. And it is so huge that if it comes near to the earth, it will leave the earth destroyed or some part of the earth will be destroyed.
So the poem is just directed towards the characteristics of the comet and the nature of it.

The poem The Comet by Norman Littleford describes the life of a comet as it journeys through the outer space faster than a cheetah, leaving behind a trail which is a result of the comet's surface ice melting, and as the comet nears earth it sends vibration all around causing earthquake and the creatures of the earth considers it as a spectacle of a lifetime having witnessed a comet.
The poet also talks about how he is uncertain of the scientist's theory claiming that the comet's trail might have started life on earth.
