To initiate or start a culture in laboratory experiment works, we need a tissue of a living cell ( animal or plants). That portion of the tissue is called explant.
The tissue is then transferred to the culture medium to observe necessary changes or growth desired in an experiment. Tissue from shoot can be used as an explant.
When a single cell divides and differentiates to produce other cell types seen in a organism is called totipotency.
Example of a totipotent cell is a zygote.
