There are lots of examples of reefs that have experienced disturbance that subsequently experience rapid both physical and biological erosion. The Galapagos post-ENSO disturbance and Mo’orea post COTS and typhoon are two examples that come to mind.
Whether bioeroders can directly affect the health of otherwise healthy corals I’m less clear on. There may be some other examples from the Galapagos and elsewhere of overfishing echinoid predators that are pertinent?
