We have to express the rational number

-5/8 as a rational number with denominator

-72

If we multiply the denominator 8 with 9 we get the denominator to be 72....but if we multiply denominator by some number, then the numerator must also be multiplied with the same number.. Hence, multiplying -5 by 9, we get the numerator to be -45.. Hence the rational number

is... -45/72..But the question says that the denominator must be -72.. Hence the rational number is 45/-72 because signs can be changed among the numerator and denominator as there is no difference... Hence the answer is... 45/-72
