According to chemical thermodynamics, Work done by the system(w)=-ve Heat supplied to the system(q)=+ve ∆E=q-w

according to 1st law of thermodynamics:

   ΔQ = Δ U + W

q = ΔU + w

=>  ΔU = change in internal energy = q - w
