A week of high rain and hailstorms across Maharashtra has damaged around 40,000 hectares of farm land in the state.
In the Lok Sabha on Friday Union Minister of agriculture Radha Mohan Singh said that there has been 3,228 farmer suicides in 2016, the highest record in last 15 years.

In 2015-16, Maharashtra was hit by drought due to inadequate and delayed monsoon which affected more than ninety lakhs farmers who had grown rainfed crops.
