The sex determination is based on the chromosome. The female have XY chromosome and male have XX chromosome. If a new born baby have one X and one y then it will result in the born of a female but if a new born baby have two X cells then it will result in the born of a male.

sex chromosome pattern in female is XX i.e., all gametes have X chromosomes. While in males , it is XY i.e., some gametes have X and some gametes have Y chromosomes. So 50 percent sperms carry X and 50 percent sperms carry Y chromosomes. As females always contribute similar X chromosomes but female child is produced if X chromosomes of male fertilize and male child is produced if Y chromosome of the male is contributed. So sex of baby depends on father not on mother.
