After invading Dravidian Civilisation like Harrapa.etc. Aryans started their own culture and Hinduism prevailed on Indian subcontinent. ... Hence Brahmins became important in Hindu Society in early 8th century with learning and following on Smritis especially 'ManuSmriti' and Vedas of early Hindu mythological values.

They were the ones who were important for the rituals which were performed by the kings

They were patronised by the kings and were sometimes also given land grants

They sometimes maintained the temples also

They also prescribed the rules and regulations for a specific kingdom

These made the Brahmans important in the Hindu society
