f (x) = 2x3 − 7x2 − 5x + 4
(a) Find the remainder when f (x) is divided by (x –1).
(b) Use the long division to show that (x+1) is a factor of f (x).

Sorry dude but long division is not possible here.

Answer 1:

g(x) = x - 1

So, x = 1

Using remainder theorem:

f(1) = Remainder

f(1) = 2*1 - 7*1 - 5*1 + 4

= 2 - 7 - 5 + 4

= (-5)
