The Estates-Gneral was the assembly that represented the three estates of the french society. It originated in the thirteenth century and the first assembly met at Notre-Dame in Paris on April 10, 1302 for discussing the conflict between Pope Boniface Eighth and Philip fourth this assembly supported the king and survey was done afterwards to know the public opinion. Estates General had separate assembly for the three estates. The assembly was different fro the English parliament as it didn't have power to approve the royal legislation and taxation. It was an advisory body to the king.
