Movement of particles from higher concentration to lower concentration is called as passive transport or facilitated diffusion. The energy is not required in facilitated diffusion. In facilitated diffusion, the molecules can pass both in direction and opposite of the concentration gradient.

Answer:

  • Selective transport of large molecules across the cell membrane is called as facilitated diffusion.
  • It takes place in presence of special proteins (porins) but does not involve expenditure of energy.
  • Water soluble (hydrophilic) substances are transported by eight different aquaporins
