2 {a}^{2} + 13a + 18 = 0 \\ 2 {a }^{2} + 9a + 4a + 18 = 0 \\ a(2a + 9) + 2(2a + 9) = 0 \\ (2a + 9)(a + 2) = 0 \\ 2a + 9 = 0 \:  \:  \:  \:  \: or \:  \:  \:  \: a + 2 = 0 \\ a =   \frac{ - 9}{2}    \:  \:  \:  \:  \: or \:  \:  \:  \:  \: a =  - 2
