Hi ,

3 - x ( 4 + 7x )

= 3 - 4x - 7x²

= - 7x² - 4x + 3

Splitting the middle term ,

= - 7x² - 7x + 3x + 3

= -7x ( x + 1 ) + 3 ( x + 1 )

= ( x + 1 ) ( - 7x + 3 )

Or

= ( 3 - 7x ) ( x + 1 )

I hope this helps you.

(3 - x)(4  + 7x) \\ 3 \times 4 + 3 \times 7x + ( - x \times 4) + ( - x \times 7x) \\ 12 + 21x - 4x  - 7 {x}^{2}  \\ 12 + 17x - 7 {x}^{2}
