3x^3-17x^2+18x+8=0
=> 3x^3-6x^2-11x^2+22x-4x+8=0
=> 3x^2 (x-2)-11x (x-2)-2 (x-2)=0
=> (3x^2-11x-2)(x-2)=0
3x^2-11x-2=0 and x-2=0
3x^2-11x-2=0 is factorise by quadratic formula .
hence
x=(11+root(145))/6, (11-root (145))/6, and 2

Answer:

x=4

x=2

x=-1/3

Step-by-step explanation:

 {3x}^{3}  - 17 {x}^{2}  + 18x  + 8 \\ 3 {x}^{3}  - 5 {x}^{2}  - 2x - 12 {x}^{2}  + 20x + 8  \\ x (3 {x}^{2}  - 5x - 2) - 4(3 {x}^{2}  - 5x - 2) \\ (x - 4)(3 {x}^{2}  - 5x - 2) \\ (x - 4)(3 {x}^{2}  + x - 6x + 2) \\ (x - 4)(x(3x - 1) - 2(3x + 1)) \\ (x - 4)(x - 2)(3x + 1)

x=4

x=2

x=-1/3
