6x²-17x+12

Write -17x as a difference.

6x²-8x-9x+12

Factor out 2x from the expression.

2x(3x-4)-9x+12

Factor out -3 from the expression.

2x(3x-4)-3(3x-4)

Factor out 3x-4 from the expression.

(3x-4)(2x-3)

The required factorisation.

Hope it helps...:-)

6x²-17x+12 = (2x - 3)(3x - 4)

Given:

  • 6x² - 17x + 12

To Find:

Factors

Solution:

  • Factorization is finding factors which when multiplied together results in the original number.

6x²-17x+12

Step 1:

Split the middle term

6x²-9x -8x +12

Step 2:

Talking 3x common from 1st 2 terms and -4x common from last 2 terms

3x(2x -3)-4(2x- 3)

Step 3:

Talking (2x- 3) common

(2x - 3)(3x - 4)

Hence 6x²-17x+12 = (2x - 3)(3x - 4)
