(a + 2b) ^{2}  - a ^{2}  \\  \\  = (a) ^{2}  + (2b) ^{2}  + 2 \times a \times 2b - a ^{2}  \\  \\  = a ^{2}  + 4b ^{2}  + 4ab - a ^{2}  \\  \\  = 4b ^{2}  + 4ab \\  \\  = 4b(b + a)
