a^4 - (a^2 - 3b )^2

use identity: (a - b )^2 =a^2 + b^2 - 2ab ,in second part of the given question ,as it is ,

a = a^2, b = 3b

=a^4 - { (a^2)^2 + (3b)^2

- 2(a^2 ) (3b)}

=a^4 - a^4 - 9b^2 + 6a^2b

= -9b^2 + 6a^2b

= 6a^2b - 9b^2

= 3b( 2a^2 - 3b)

hope it helps /
