 {x}^{2}  + 13x + 40 = 0

 {x}^{2} + 13x + 40 = 0

⟹ {x}^{2}  + 8x + 5x + 40 = 0

⟹x(x + 8) + 5(x + 8) = 0

⟹(x + 5)(x + 8) = 0

⟹x =  - 5 \: and \: x =  - 8
