Question :-

Factorise :- p² + 11p – 42.

Solution :-

We Can Use Split Middle Term Method here.

In this method, we cut the middle term in a part of two so that it makes easier to factorise it.

Method :-

We need to find the two factors of -42 (last term) whose sum equals to the coefficient of middle term, which is +11p.

So, We have got the numbers like this,

42 - 1 = 41. (Not the correct one).

21 - 2 = 19. (Not the correct one).

14 - 3 = 11 (This is the right one ✔).

Now, Write +11p = 14p - 3p.

⇒ p² + 14p - 3p - 42.

⇒ p(p + 14) - 3(p + 14).

(p + 14)(p - 3)

Hence, The Factorised Form is :-

p² + 11p – 42 = (p + 14)(p - 3).

Answer :-

p2 + 11p -42

use middle term splitting method

p2 + 11p -42

p2 -3p +14p -42

p( p - 3) + 14( p - 3)

( p + 14 ) ( p - 3)

hope it's help ✌✌
