Given Equation is x^2 - 1 - 2a - a^2

= > x^2 - (1 + 2a + a^2)

= > x^2 - (1 + a)^2

= > [x + (1 + a)][x + (1 - a)]

= > (x + 1 + a)(x + 1 - a)

Hope this helps!
