Step-by-step explanation:

This question can't be factorised so you have to use quadratic formula here..

Quadratic Formula : -b +or- √b²-4ac

-------------------------

2a

= -(-5) +or- √(-5)²-4(1)(-2)

---------------------------------

2(1)

= 5 +or- √25-8

----------------------

2

= 5+√17 5-√17

Answer:

Question :-

Factorise :-

x^2 - 5x - 2 = 0

Required Answer :-

x^2 - 5x - 2 = 0

comparing with ax^2 + bx + c = 0,

a = 1,b = - 5, c = - 2

b^2 - 4ac = (-5)^2 - 4(1)(-2)

= 25 + 8

= 33

 x \:  = \frac{ -  \: b \: \:  +  -  \:  \sqrt{b {}^{2}  \:  -  \: \: 4ac }  }{2a}

x \:  =  \: \frac{ \:  - ( - 5) \:  +  -  \:  \sqrt{33} }{2(1)}

x \:  =  \: \frac {5 +  -   \sqrt{}  33}{2}

hope it help you

x \:  = \frac{5 \:  +  \sqrt{} 33} {2} \: or \: x \:  = \frac{5 -   \sqrt{} 33}{2} \\  \\
