1/4 (a^2 + 2ab + b^2) - 9/16 (4a^2 - 4ab + b^2)

= 1/4 * a^2 + 1/4 * 2ab + 1/4 * b^2 - 9/16 * 4a^2 + 9/16 * 4ab - 9/16 * b^2

= 1/4*a^2 + 1/2*ab + 1/4*b^2 - 9/4*a^2 + 9/4*ab - 9/16*b^2

= 1/4*a^2 - 9/4*a^2 + 2/4*ab + 9/4*ab + 4/16*b^2 - 9/16*b^2

= -8/4*a^2 + 11/4*ab - 5/16*b^2

= -2/1*a^ 2 + 11/4* ab - 5/16*b^2
