Step-by-step explanation:

ax + bx - ay - by

= x(a + b) - y(a + b)

= (x - y)(a + b)

Some important Formulas -

  • (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b²
  • (a - b)² = a² - 2ab + b²
  • (a + b)(a - b) = a² - b²
  • (a + b)³ = a³ + 3a²b + 3b²a + b³
  • (a - b)³ = a³ - 3a²b + 3b²a - b³

Examples -

Using the formula of (a +b)² -

(3 + 5)²

= (3)² + 2 × 3 × 5 + (5)²

= 9 + 30 + 25

  • = 64

Using the formula of (a - b)²

(5 - 3)²

= (5)² - 2 × 5 × 3 + (3)²

= 25 - 30 + 9

  • = 4

Using the formula of (a + b)(a - b)

(3 + 5)(3 - 5)

= (3)² - (5)²

= 9 - 25

  • = - 16

Using the formula of (a + b)³

(3 + 5)³

= (3)³ + 3×(3)²×(5) + 3×(5)²×3 + (5)³

= 27 + 135 + 225 + 125

  • = 512

Using the formula of (a - b)³

(5 - 3)³

= (5)³ - 3×(5)²×3 + 3×(3)²×5 - (3)³

= 125 - 225 + 135 - 27

  • = 8
