Given:

Faiza has  1½ litre of juice in a jug.

She drank 1/4 of it in the morning her sister added 3/8 litre more in the jug

To find:

How many juices in the jug now?

Solution:

The initial quantity of juice in the jug = 1½ litre = \frac{3}{2} \:litre

Faiza drank ¼ of the juice in the jug

∴ The quantity of juice Faiza drank in the morning is,

= \frac{3}{2} \times \frac{1}{4}

= \frac{3}{8}

∴ The remaining quantity of juice in the jug is,

= \frac{3}{2} - \frac{3}{8}

= \frac{12 - 3}{8}

= \frac{9}{8}

Her sister added 3/8 litre more in the jug

∴ The new quantity of juice in the jug is,

= \frac{9}{8} + \frac{3}{8}

= \frac{12}{8}

= \frac{3}{2}

= \bold{1\frac{1}{2} \:litre}

Thus, now there is \underline{\bold{1\frac{1}{2} \:litre}} of juice in the jug.
