B) Lime decreases the acidity of the soil maintain the pH.
The reason is quite clear here, as, the acidity of the soil can be corrected by adding lime to it as it is basic (or a Base which is alkaline in nature), the Base will directly neutralise the acid present in the soil and make it more alkaline or basic, hence, upto a point where it balances the acidic component in it.
Usually the Base will react with the acidic solution into he soil, as per the reaction, lime contains calcium carbonate or CaCO3 which will readily act with the acid soil containing hydrogen, aluminium and calcium (essential minerals for plants), this will further make the soil neutral and from water, carbon dioxide and aluminium oxide which are not harmful to the plant and will not bring in any osmotical pressure change making the plant turgid through the means for water and other components formed through the products of the reaction of lime with soil.
