I hope it may help you
Rather than telling the government to do this/that etc., as citizens of this country who consume the produce, we must do something that will help the farmers yield more money for their output.
In urban areas, cost of vegetables are around Rs. 40 per Kg. In this 40 rupees, more than 80% goes to middlemen (truck drivers, wholesale dealers, commission agents etc). I have seen cases where the farmer gets only 2 rupees per Kg whereas market rate is 15 rupees!!
If we can collectively make an arrangement to make the farmer directly sell to the end consumer, there will be an increased cash flow to the farmer.
For example, i have a suggestion:
If all of us could pool in money and hire/buy a truck we can arrange to carry the produce to urban areas and make the farmer sell to the end consumers. If this is done on cost to cost basis, we can avoid the cost of the big profit margin exploited by the middlemen. I agree we cannot do this on a large scale initially. But sustained efforts will definitely bear fruits.
Little drops make an ocean. Instead of blaming the government, if we could help our farmers in ways like this definitely we can improve their economical condition.
But buying a truck is not a one mans job. We need more people to contribute and discuss the viability of this proposal.
Ideas are welcome!!
