The fastest moving glacier in the world is known as Jakobshavn Glacier.

The glacier has surpassed the speed record of 6km/h too. The glacier had been moving ice at a really fast speed which has become a major concern for environmentalist across the globe.

Glaciers can move either way and have been classified into two groups due to the same reasons.

Answer: Surging glaciers.

Explanation:

This type of glaciers move with velocities 100 times more than your normal velocity. These glaciers are found between fast and slow moving ices. The surging events of some glaciers are predictable whereas some glaciers are unpredictable.

When the glaciers stagnates between two surges, the time of stagnation is called as quiescent phase. This glacier is divided into two types, they are Alaskan type (fast moving) and lacunas types (slow moving).
